In search of the time found – the artistic creation in Proust and Bergson
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article is based on Samuel Beckett’s critical reading of Proust’s novel In Search of Lost Time to investigate the issue of artistic creation in Henri Bergson’s philosophical thought. Beckett's analysis of memory, habit, and time in Proust, makes it possible to glimpse certain affinities between Proustian ideas and Bergson’s reflection on art and the artist as the ones who reveal the temporal reality of life, the duration of it. Such revelation leads the artist to the search for a way by which he can overcome the common uses and the natural tendencies inscribed in the language so that the expression and communication of a knowledge about the truth can come to light, which puts the imagination as a crucial instance to access the true nature of reality.
