Cosmotechnics: Thinking Technology as a Worldview

Abstract

As in other areas of philosophy, the history of technology has been told in a way that universalizes our perception and reception of technics in our lives. Thus, when we speak of technology today, it is difficult to think of anything other than what the West and modern thought have defined as “technology” and what can be considered “technological.” In this context, this article discusses the concept of cosmotechnics as a possibility for imagining new forms of life and possible futures through our relationship with digital technologies. In this sense, technology is not reduced to a set of skills for making instruments but constitutes a way of thinking and creating worldviews, values, and modes of existence. Drawing on Hui and on Deleuze and Guattari, we propose a new aesthetic and technological paradigm that opens space for other relations, affects, and desires — beyond the conception of technology developed by the Global North.
